The Ladies' Bible Study is currently reading Promised Rest: Finding Peace in God's Presence by Michelle Diercks. From the book cover: our heavenly Father is near and dear. He draws us close, provides for our needs, and loves us unconditionally. But we lose sight of that: we become dissatisfied. Anxious. We crave respite and rest. Explore who God is, what He does, and what He promises in this Bible study. Each chapter draws the reader closer to God’s real and present peace in His Word and Sacraments. Through stories, Scripture, and reflection-discussion questions, journaling prompts, and inspirational coloring pages-readers consider the names and traits that express the very essence of God.
Books are still available. You can complete the study on your own or join the group on Wednesdays at 2pm on the following dates:
Week 7 - September 3: Yahweh Ra’ah
Week 8 - September 10: Immanuel
Direct any questions to Pam Norris.
Week 1: Elohim: Mighty, Powerful
Takeaways from Week 1 discussion
When God made everything, He spoke it into existence. But He formed man with his own hands.
God is in control.
Be in the presence of the One (Elohim) who breathed into you the breath of life. He has called you by name. He holds in you in his capable hands. May you rest in His promises.
Week 2 & Week 3: Independent Study
Week 4: El Shaddai: Sustainer, All-Sufficient
Takeaways from Week 4 discussion
We forgive because Jesu forgave us first.
Forgiving someone doesn’t mean you are ok with their actions. Forgiveness means you are releasing the situation to God.
Forgiveness is an act of your will.
Forgiveness is a process.
Don’t let bitterness destroy your soul.
Week 5: Jir'eh: Yahweh will see it
Takeaways from Week 5 discussion
From Proverbs 16:9: the heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
He will provide everything you need to get through (fill in the blank), if that is where He is leading you .
When worry becomes our focus, it demonstrates a lack of faith.
We often think strengthening our faith is something we can do ourselves. Actually, faith is an gift from God. We receive faith from the Holy Spirit.
Week 6: Shalom: God is Peace
Takeaways from Week 6 discussion
Gideon tested God several times. God didn’t lose his patience with Gideon.
Don’t give up on God. Don’t give up on church. God doesn’t give up on us.
Practice gratitude & pray (that is talk to God) about everything.
The only way to achieve peacefulness is to reset our minds to focus on the only One who brings us peace.
